Adult Education Program

There has been a recent influx of immigrant families to low-income areas in Massachusetts. Currently in Massachusetts, there is great impetus for ESL programs because of the continuous increase of non-English speaking immigrants in the state. Immigrants who cannot speak fluent English cannot contribute much to the American society because of their limited capacity to comprehend and communicate with people in their community life.

For many newly arrived immigrants, learning English is a significant hurdle that significantly impacts their ability to integrate into their new society, access employment, education, and participate in daily life due to the language barrier it presents. For this reason, Action for Haiti Community Development (AHCD) has launched an innovative ESOL Program for recently arrived Haitian migrants to help them improve their language skills, acquiring sufficient language proficiency and independent learning strategies to become successful participants in the communities.

The purpose of AHCD's ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program is to provide newcomers with the necessary English language skills to effectively participate in daily life, work, and the community in their new country, enabling them to integrate more fully by improving their ability to communicate, access education, and pursue employment opportunities.

By addressing immediate language needs, migrants can begin to participate in daily life more quickly, accessing essential services and building social connections.
